Resolved payment, reconciliation challenges

Challenge

Virgin Active health clubs, gyms and spas had an aging Delphi application for point of sale within clubs and call centre collections. The organisation wanted to modernise its POS technology with web services enabled, an integration layer implemented and it wanted to replace its Speedpoint non-integrated card devices with FNB integrated chip and pin solutions that reduced the need for manual integration. In addition, Virgin Active SA required a system that could be maintained by in-house skills resources and which auto-allocated fees.

Solution

Using technologies including SQL Server and ASP.Net, EOH MC completed a socket-implementation of hardware to an online point of sale system integrated to several in-house applications including the joining application and member management system. A new graphical user interface was implemented for salespeople across over 125 clubs; and EOH MC worked with a Virgin Active team to develop the new payment system. EOH MC developed the front end, authentication and permissions mechanism, credit card gateways and chip and pin integration, as well as the service bus to enable asynchronous communication with the service layer and integration with third party providers. EOH now runs all systems facilitating credit card payments and is responsible for all POS payments throughout the clubs, head office and collections centre. The solution resolved multiple issues around payment allocation and reconciliation.
