Advanced BI to boost Hospice care
Hospice, which provides community-based palliative care and related health care services, is highly dependent on donor funding and relied on paper-based and Excel reporting to manage operations and coordinate fundraising initiatives. These methods were time-consuming and error-prone, preparation cycles were long and data quality was flawed.
EOH built a data warehouse based on the Ralph Kimball methodology to simplify the reporting process and pre-calculate the more complex operations that did not perform well from the operational system. A multi-dimensional cube was built on top of the warehouse to provide an easy interface for business users to mine the data. Dashboards were created for drawing data from a data mart and published to Microsoft SharePoint for access by authorized personnel across South Africa.
Using SQL Server 2008 R2, SQL Server Integration Services 2008 R2, SQL Server Analysis Services 2008 R2, SQL Server Reporting Services 2008, SharePoint 2010 and Excel for cubes analysis, EOH delivered a solution that improves efficiencies and facilitates in-depth data analysis. The solution supports greater data accuracy for reporting and analysis; and allows Hospice to identify issues early in the cycle and track the quality and frequency of care provided across the service delivery centres.
